District of Muskoka Development Charges
The Muskoka Builders' Association has been following and participating in the discussions taking place at the District of Muskoka regarding the proposed Development Charges for the next 5-year period.
The District has held several meetings on the issue, including a public meeting on September 22, 2008 and a Council meeting on October 14, 2008. The matter was sent back to the District's Corporate and Emergency Services Committee, who met on Friday, October 24, 2008 to try to reach consensus. Thanks to the Committee, who permitted the Muskoka Builders' Association to make a presentation at this meeting. Our presentation in MS Word format- Download file (Word Document).
After much discussion, the District's Corporate and Emergency Services Committee passed a motion to make a recommendation to Council as follows: To impose a 10% increase in all rates effective November 1, 2008 to run through to July 31, 2009. During the period November 1-July 31, District Council will review and study impacts and possible reduction/cost-saving solutions.
The matter will be considered by District Council at a special Council meeting on October 29, 2008, where this motion will be considered and voted on.
Update: District Council voted to adopt a 10% increase until July 31, 2009 during which time they will examine charges for the subsequent 4 years.
